This season we have been burning cherry and oak in our wood stove. Burning through the different wood types reveals a lot about the tree it came from. The difference in these two is significant. Both burn hot and have a great smell. Oak will outlast cherry on burn time but cherry seems to catch fire faster and burn into a dense ash. Which is better? Neither. They’re just different. Aren’t we like these trees that God created? We serve the same purpose, but we go about it in our own way. In 1 Peter 4:10 it says “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” Remember this year as you interact with your community, focus on the purpose and use YOUR gifts to serve God!
